4020 Lp to gas conversion

I'd think a carb. and a way to get gas to it should be all to make it run. The higher compression LP engine may run fine on gas ? if not some higher octane gas might do it. Don't know if a carb. will bolt onto the lp manifold ? Should be pretty east to do if not too worried about being perfect. Be easier and likely cheaper to get set up with a lp tank to refill it and run lp.

There have been converted tractors advertised here, so it can be done.

LP is kind of a neat fuel though... I had a propane powered 79 Ford F250, and that was a good old truck. The oil never got dirty, and spark plug maintenance was nil.

I might suggest you do a search here on gas 4020s. I think you will find plenty of posts about carbs and plugs.

I personally would consider an LP 4020 before a gas one.

Ditto what coonie minnie stated plus LPG in the Summer can normally be purchased cheaper than gasoline and there's no road taxes that require getting a refund on from government.

I have a Zenith carb (The good cast iron one) that I would sell. It came off a 105 combine (4020 gas engine) that I just parted out.I have some other 4020-105 gas engines here for parts as well if you need parts. Tom

Dan Brotzman did a couple of articles on this very thing in Green Magazine a year or two ago. Give us a call and we'll see if we can sell you a couple of back issues.

would I be better off getting a gas engine from a 105 only reason I want to convert is I use this tractor away from home don't have anyway to fill with out loading and hauling

Diesel would be nice but I need one to start in cold weather don't like using starting fluid and don't have electricity at the barn it will stay in

How much do you use it??? Have the local LP guy fill it. Or they can spot you a tank, and you can fill it. It is not that hard.

I'm not familiar with the 4020 LP but on the 2 cyl. models I have refilled them with the old style 20 lb tanks before opd valves. Not must different than hauling gas cans around. Except it won't spill. Had a hose made to connect it to a port on the tractor and you could hang the tank upside down and run the liquid in. Might still could do with the 100 lb cylinders and a hoist. Plus they have a port to run the vapor in and hang a small tank on the tractor to get you home to refill.

Rigging up a mount for a 100lb auxiliary tank ain't a bad idea as previously stated.
Glad to hear that somebody is not considering a conversion of a side console LP with PS, HFWD and an air conditioned cab.
