What is value of 1955 JD 40W all fuel? All original, not restored other than engine rebuilt and great tires?

I have a 40W gas. Yours should be really rare with total production being only around 1800. But then rare does not always mean they sell well. I have seen them sell for less in the past than a utility model of which 5 or 6 thousand ? were made. Good luck if you try and sell it as I think this market has died off.

$1500 to $3000. As mentioned demand has dropped. It's a nostalgic old folks toy and we are dying off. I want one of those myself as well as a 56 420. I'm too old to work the tractors I have like they should be so it would be pointless to add another. If my kids and grandkids were interested it would be different. Figure there's a bunch of old folks in the same boat so prices aren't going to get any better.

I disagree. I think there is more than one market for these little gems. The collectors market, sure, but these little tractors have a lot to offer for use on a small farm. They sill give good service doing small jobs very economically. With pto an 3 point hitch they are very useful. I have one I did a ground up restoration on and converted it to 12 volt. It's not for sale but I wouldn't consider anything less than 4500 for it.

I've had this for years in my shop. Old buddy of mine (since passed on) helped me with it. Trying to get re-motivated to start using it. I'm like all others on this discussion group, too many projects and time running out. Thanks for the info.

Very few small farmers like myself want an old 2 cylinder. Most guys farming a couple acres around me have to have a Kubota with 4 wheel drive and tall tires. I would have loved to have found a nice 40W around me instead of the 1010 I bought but folks around here still think they are worth big money.

Your right, if it doesn't have a bucket and 4wd, they don't seem to want it. That's ok, for those of us that enjoy the popping sound and the classics, we'll continue on.
