Radiator Filler Neck Installation

Are you wanting to remove and re-use the filler neck? I can't think of a reason to do that, and I don't know how you would do it without destroying it.

Years ago, I put a new filler neck in a 630 that had been rolled over and burned. I removed the old one with a small sharp chisel. It was made of brass, and easy to cut. I cleaned the radiator opening up real good with a wire brush on a drill, froze the new neck and drove it in place using a wood block for a cushion. I don't know that freezing it was any help - by the time I got it in place it was as warm as the cast radiator top. The radiator opening was slightly tapered. It seems to compress the brass as you force it in. Not sure if this answer is related to your question.
 
I changed one in a 530 once. The old one was split and leaked. Easy enough to remove if you don't want to save it. Either a chisel or slide hammer ? Now to install ? That's a tough one as I darn near completely ruined mine installing it ! If I was to do another one I think I'd grind the OD down and the tank ID out some so it was not a real tight fit and then use JB weld to stick it together.
 
Mike, they ARE a tight fit. I drove mine in until it started to push the brass neck slightly down into the larger brass body, then quit. It never did reach the landing in the cast top, but it never has leaked between the brass and the cast.
