Can a LA steering gear box be rebuilt to keep it from leaking or could I just fill it full of grease?

Rebuild with new seals and then use JD corn head grease in it. That's worked for me on old tractors.

I rebuilt my LA steering box once and tried oil and couldn't get it to seal. Rebuilt a second time and used JD corn head grease. No leaks, no mess, and works good. I put the cornhead grease in a large can on the driveway on a hot afternoon to get it to flow easily. You want to make sure it is near liquid when you put it in the housing so it fills in all the spaces and provides good lubrication.
