4620 open station

Too big for a chore tractor,1000 RPM shaft only..and who wants to set on it on a cold night chisel plowing.

404 motor in a large frame tractor. So you have harder starting when cold and not real powerful if lugged down. Unless it is some thing your really want to collect keep going to some thing else.

I had 1 for 8000 hours and had no problem with it. I pulled 6 18 Plow with it and a 26 ft. field cultivator . 22 ft 235 Disk. They are built heavy.

We have one for a big tractor. It dyno's at 170 hp. We have the fuel turned to it but really do not work it hard mainly forage harvester(corn silage, haylage and snaplage) a seven shank disc chisel and a 14ft Landoill soil finisher. My son was looking for a powershift 4020 and we found this for less money than an early 4020.Mine is a syncrorange. We did add a rollbar and canopy. I like it much more than the 5010 I had years ago. We have done a fair amount of work to it, rewired it and rebuilt the front end. If I were doing it over I might have bought a 4630 for the cab but otherwise I have no complaints with it. Tom

Uncle had one in sandy bottom ground. Whatever sand the front wheels picked up the engine fan blasted you with it. Liked its fuel too, he liked the power though, pulled a 6 16 plow in heavy bottom ground, said when it found a tough spot he shifted down a gear(powershift), front end came off the ground until he got though it, once the front end came down he shifted back up and kept on going.

I really enjoy driving them, the sound of the engine, the high seat location. They are not too loud with a muffler, and the turbo wine is nice to ear.

I have seen few 4620 that really started very well (you hit the starter and realease, fire up all the time like a 4440 will). That is because of the big JDC pump and bigger injectors than 4020.

If it happens to be a powershift there were only 1883 made and they sell well if nice. The 1000 PTO only hurts them just a good workhorse built to last.

Transmission gears are same than 7520, and rear planetaries are very slightly smaller in diameter than 5020, but much wider.

Only weak point is the differential with only 2 spiders. But you can put a 4640 one in there with 4 spiders.
