Interesting John Deere pump

Tonight was at a tractor salvage yard and ran across a John Deere pto air pump. I had never seen one before and never even knew they existed. It appears to be missing the air hose but the chain is there. I will probably pick it up but was curious about a couple things. I looked in the archives and did not find much.
Were these sold the same time as my 630? Where were they stored on a tractor? Is there a mount bracket for them?

Thanks for the help.

Not sure when they came out but they were available when the 4020's were sold. I would guess they came out in the late 40's to early 50's. I have an operaters manual somewhere for one and was told a few years ago you could still buy the replacement leather cups for the piston. I have one or two but have never tried to use them. Tom

Good to know. Were they carried on the tractor or kept in the shop? Seems like they would have to stay on the tractor but look too big for a toolbox.

I picked up one a few months ago at a auction, cleaned up & replaced the cup
Works like a charm & has saved my butt already.. I keep mine in a burlap tied
sack & a bungee cord inside the frame to the lower water pipe on the 60. I have
never seen a bracket to mount them on the tractor but it would surprise me if there
was one. On my little M it won't fit in the tool box under the seat but I bungee it
on underneath the box, to me a valuable tool when cutting wood. Since I have 11 wood
wagons that are loaded as I type..

dad had 1 in the 1950's, looked old then. I always thought he bought it right after WW2. It stayed on the bench in the shop.

We used one on a regular basis, didn't have an air compressor until the early 60's. My father-in-law had one that you put in the spark plug hole, not as handy.
