Power Steering for John Deere 1020

recently bought a John Deere 1020. I would like to add power steering. What are pump and fittings do I need. Is there a easier way like adding a steering valve? Is my pump not big enough?

Welcome to YT
You could purchase a used PS valve housing & pressure supply line from a salvage yard. The current hyd pump is large enough to furnish oil for power steering.

Just like TX Jim says just buy a used steering column and you will have to Tee into the one line in front of your brake valve or just buy a set of used lines. Make sure it is not off an early 1020 or 2020 as they had a different power steering with it's own pump. A steering valve off a 1020,1520,2020,2030,2240,2440 or 2640 will work also check the yellow 300,301,302 and 400 industrial tractors. I have a 1520 that I plan to put power steering on this winter and my valve came off a 2440. I have done several over thee years. Tom

I was hoping for that answer. Where should I
look for a used steering column? How much
are they normally used?

Thanks for the replies. How much should I
expect for a used steering column? Where
should I look?

The last one I bought was on an Ebay auction and cost less than $150 with shipping. Years ago the local salvage yard would get $450-550. Tom

I have been on Internet calling and pricing used steering valves and wow. They sure want a lot for one. 750 is the cheapest used one I have found so far!!
