420 S transmission fluid

Hello everyone. New to the forum. Inherited my grandfathers 58 420S. Runs good. Had to fix the hydraulics but they work good now also. Was driving in high gear and the engine began to bog down like I was hitting the brakes or climbing a hill. Any ideas? I decided to drain the transmission and final drives to find water in all. I'm going to flush with diesel but not sure which is the best oil to use in each. I have the manual that tells me the weight and amount. Was just wondering if there any particular brands and type to use. I don't know much about oil and there is a lot of information out there. Any help would be appreciated

yellow metal friendly GL-4 or GL-5 is good . Even straight weight 50 or 60weight motor oil.
Are the wheel brakes releasing ?

Not sure if the wheel brakes are releasing. Only the left side works and it's not pulling to one side. I would assume they are but not 100% on that. Thank you for the oil info. That was helpful.

My 420 Service Manual Calls for SAE 90wt in both Transmission and Final Drives.

Your local Deere Store will have GL-5 for approx $20 a Gallon that will work great.

Transmission takes approx. 7.5 Qts and Final Drives take 2 Qts each.

Pretty sure the right brake is not releasing. It hasn't worked since I've had the tractor. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Take both sets of brakes apart, clean , inspect, service and repair as required. The friction disks are usually burned from drivers forgetting and driving with the parking brake lock on.
