12 Coil on Gas 1010

Yes if in fact it is still stock meaning a previous owner has not been in there to re-arrange things. Parts applet calls for resistor AA5791R $30 from mother deere, $5 eBay used near the ignition switch. Coil is AT14385, $77 from mother deere, $16 from eBay and it crosses over to Standard Motor Parts UC-14 which is properly called a 6 volt
coil. Do you really get what you pay for? Just being snarky here, pay me no mind.

I just put a Pertronix Flame thrower II in my 1010. I bought the 12 volt epoxy filled version available on this site. Tractor fires right up and runs nice. I increased plug gap from the .25 in the manual to .3 with no issues.

Thanks Gentleman.....Right now it has just the coil and it seems to be dying when it gets hot and then re-starts and runs fine for a little while.....not fuel and spark looks weak out of coil. Already replaced coil and condenser but was wondering if needed resistor since it doesn't have one.

All depends on the replacement coil you purchased. Was it 1.5 ohms on the primary or 3 ohms? 1.5 ohms yes to resistor, no on 3 ohm coil as hotflashjr did.

Sounds like the coil is getting hot and is possibly ruined by that. Points should be well burnt up too. You could just put the 3 ohm pertronix coil on it without a resistor and it would work fine at 12 volts with a new set of points.

1010 originally had a 6 volt coil (same used on a 420) and a ballast resistor built into the ignition switch. If the switch went bad, Deere had an external resistor kit
to fix 1010s and 2010s.

I rewired tractor because it didn't have anything at all and had a 12v alt and battery....so I put a 2.9 ohm 12 volt coil on it and replaced points and condenser. But it seems this problem keeps creeping up...I'll look into it more and get back to u'guys..Thanks Again
