John Deere 630 brake question.

I am trying to move a 1959 630 and it appears the
brakes are locked as I cannot move the pedal and
wheels won't turn. I don't have a manual but will
order one. Is there an adjuster on there or an easy
way to loosen them up? Is this common on a 630
that has been sitting?

Thanks. Jason

The easiest way is to pull the whole brake assembly. There are three stud bolts that holds the brake flange to the differential case. Unbolt the flange , there is a stud pin that helps hold position and helps to keep the assembly from turning. Once you have the bolts out you can pry the flange away from the differential case. The stud pin will stay in the case. Hope this helps.

Take a look at the diagram below.

Note the adjusting screw (Key 17), lever shaft (Key 18), 90o grease fitting (Key 20), adjusting pins (Key 26), and cam (Key 31).

Take a look at the photos below of the adjusting screw and adjusting pins.

You might consider greasing the lever shaft or removing the grease fitting and applying your favorite penetrate to free the lever shaft and cam.

Hope this helps.

Best pull the whole brake off and get the tractor moved. I have freed up some in the past with penetrating oil and hammering on the brake drum. BUT I have also SPLIT some drums doing this too !

Spray some water around and inside the drum then tap with a hammer and it will turn loose I have done several and has never failed me.
