JD 4230 Eng oil In Trans

35 hours ago i installed a new perma clutch and installed a new rear main seal while i had it all apart. I used a seal installer and installed the new seal and wear sleeve. I didn't replace the oil pan gasket since it wasn't ripped. I added a bead of silicone to the bottom of the rear main seal housing. Today The engine oil was low and the trans was overfull. I pulled the pan to check the gasket first and i had oil between the gasket and the oil pan. Is it possible i didnt get the proper crush on the pan gasket to seal housing when i installed? I wouldn't think the rear crank seal could leak that much but it could be possible? Thank you

Did you remove the seal from the wear ring?
Only thing you can do now is replace the oil pan
gasket and hope for the best.

Did you put Loctite on the 4 flywheel bolt threads? The holes in the crank flange are NOT blind, and I can tell you from experience engine oil will sneak past them if not sealed.

All these things and to add some times the seal quill does not get centered up on the crank, along with leakage around the quill.. I stick a shop vac with the exhaust blowing into the oil fill hole and spray soap around the seal after I install it,, capping the fly wheel holes of course..

When i installed i left my seal housing bolts a little loose to make sure it centered i then torqued the bolts. I did also put loctite on the flywheel bolts. any tricks i can do to check the seal? Thanks guys

That was a good way to put the seal in,,I would split it again, remove the flywheel cap the flywheel, stick a shop vac into the engine oil fill hole and pressurize the engine then soap the seal area and check for bubbles..

I did install a Part # re22764 seal and wear sleeve from hy capacity if that makes a difference. I just looked up on jd parts that a new number RE520036 is what you get now from deere which i have installed before on our 4020.

It sounds like you did every thing right...so to re-check it all split it and test it out with a shop vac,,, I have been it the same situation as you right now,, so ever since I pressure test them before I go on back together,, I keep a little 5 Gallon shop vac cleaned up and ready just for test like this, it will put a high volume low pressure air test that won't have enough to blow a seal out but still enough to do a bubble test,,I use it for fuel tanks and other things too...

That's a good idea Tim S. I will for sure do that when i get the oil pan back on. I split the tractor last night and i found the wear sleeve was not in place and was loose on the crank. I just got my new deere seal put in. Thanks for the help i appreciate it.

I wonder why the ring was loose ?? just wondering,,we all learn from things that we share on here..
