My JD 9560W blew the driveshaft yesterday afternoon sure wish they still put zerks on the ujoints so I could grease them but no grease zerks so I am replacing parts today . Thanks John Deere for no grease lifetime not ujoints and only 1700 separator hours.

They saved $5 by deleting the Zerks..but will make a couple hundred when they sell you the new parts,,this is the mind set of the "New Deere"...

The thing with greaseable u-joints is nobody was greasing them! JD quit using them on 9610 combines and JD replacement U-joints are non-greaseable. If you go to the parts stores you can probably find greaseable U-joints

John Deere has a habit of sourcing parts from low-bidders...it ain't like JD has a u-joint factory.

Your correct they "Don't have a u-joint Factory" but they are the ones that "Approve" the ones that they use... If one goes out because some operator did not grease it is one thing,, but not having the opportunity to grease one is another..

Truly so...however it seems the trend is less zerks rather than more zerks.

My personal thoughts on drive-line u-joints on anything is I would prefer greaseable....but then a good quality properly installed greaseless U-joint should have very adequate service life.

The last few RWD cars and trucks I have had do not have u-joints with grease zerks. At the parts house I have done business with, the replacement joints DO have zerks. Not totally surprising, but frustrating. With respect to one comment made, I DO grease these zerks on our 9500 at the start of the season every year. Not a ton of hours on the machine. Like most everything else we have, in the eyes of the BTO's with overinflated egos, we have a fine line up of well maintained, relatively low houred "junk." They can keep their EGR, their DPF, high tech electronic nightmares. Mine is all paid for!!!

Ooh yes I'm with you on that,,keep them clean and serviced,,and look them over daily while your using them makes a big difference. We have a BTO near here that leases a new Deere combine each year,, you don't want his when he is done with it,,runs them hard and very little regular care.. We are always looking for lube points just in case they did finally decide to add a Zerk...
