I'm working on a '72 4020 diesel Syncro-Range. When you press in the clutch, the hydraulics go away in a few seconds. If you engage the PTO, the hydraulics behave normally. That leads me to believe the PTO valve is at least part of the problem.
I was planning to replace the R33259 o-rings in the PTO valve. Where are the o-rings located in the valve? Can you remove the R40811 control valve stem and replace the o-rings (i.e., do the o-rings fit on the bottom of the rod), or do you have to remove the AR48963 housing? Neither the parts book nor the technical manual are pointing me in the right direction.
I've looked at the stem and the grooves look shallow for o-rings. I then tried to remove the housing and found the bolts too tight to remove with a socket and pull handle (no cheater bar!).
My second question would be if I just need to go ahead and start throwing my change in a jar for a AR46113 replacement housing rather than worrying about o-rings.
