When starting this tractor cranks really slow so I switched batteries and starter which helped some then found out turning the steering wheel while cranking it spun over much faster, so what do I need to do to correct this slow cranker ??

You can install & utilize a destroking screw to help starting. Manual DS screw cost about $15. For me I'd just continue rapidly moving steering wheel from side to side while engaging starter because one doesn't need to get off/on tractor that utilizing steering wheel as starting aid. BTW JD offers an electrical DS mechanism for about $400

Forget about the destroking screws..who wants to reach in and twist one of these every time you want to start up..and then get off and "un-twist" it..Rock the wheel a bit and let it start, you are already behind the wheel any way..and yes you can chase your tail for days looking for an internal hi side leak,,but it boils down to a waste of time and money...

You would rather get on and off the tractor a couple times and fiddle with a darn screw,,rather than jiggle the steer wheel???

I'll agree with Tim. Wiggle steering wheel while starting engine and put tractor to good use.

This tractor has a high pressure leak somewhere in the system , most likely in the valve boxes or the rockshaft thermo relief valve .Also if it has a loader with a separate valve . Start the tractor and as it warms up feel the valve boxes and the steering valve for heating . (HIGH PRESSURE LEAK CAUSES HEAT). Then I would consider the front pump Pressure control valve . This looks just like a small valve in an engine and they will form a grove from oil cutting it . Thus the pump is always in stroke causing a hard crank .

Run the battery ground to a starter mounting bolt . There is a 5KW Denso gear reduction starter that will crank that engine . There is also an electric destroker kit which eliminates the high pressure pump drag. Are you holding the clutch down while cranking?
