Loader on a 39 B

When I was a kid on the farm we had a 39 B that we used as a loader tractor. The loader was controlled with the foot paddles on the power lift. There was a handle about 3 feet long that was fastened to the rockshaft. When the loader reached the desired height we just pushed or pulled the handle ahead or back. The loader was piped to the power lift. Is anyone familiar with this system and what was it called?

On those older units JD offered a conversion unit to make them run a single acting cylinder. You also had to drill and tap a hole in the back of the power lift valve housing. This unit is shown in the JD hydraulic service manual.
