Clutch Question '44 A

I'm replacing the clutch facings on my '44 A and I have a question. The new facings are smooth on one side and on the other there is a series of cuts in the face. My question is, does it which way the smooth and cuts sides goo in?

It's not that complicated....just put then in..it don't KNOW the difference...be sure to change the one behind the Clutch-Driver...!!!

That was kind of my thought but at the same time I figured that they put the cuts on for a reason. Any yes, I've pulled the clutch driver in order to replace the back one. Thanks!

I'm thinking the reason is the aftermarket has found a facing for a more "normal" application where the facings are always attached to a metal plate and on those the grooves face out to contact the flywheel and pressure plate. They already exist in the size needed so they use them.

Could maybe it be that the free floating disks for the early series actually match (size wise) the facings that attach to the metal disk that is double faced & sits between the driver & the floating driver in the later series? After #684000? Not saying it is 'cause I don't know but the answer you gave sure sounds likely & made me wonder of the later series with their floating driver.

Later.

I was just on my way to put it together and was going to put them with the grooves facing the center disc. Nice to have confirmation and a reason for doing so. Thanks!
