630 Carburetor

What is the purpose of the little metal pot on top of a JD 630 carburetor? A 530 doesn't have one and neither does a 620. How is the fuel tank on the 630 vented? The 530 has a vent tube.

I think that chamber is to prevent vapor locking.
The hose out of the top of it connects to a standpipe
That goes up near the top of the fuel tank on the inside.
Like other Deere's the tank is vented through the cap.

Popinjohn; I had to replace the complete vent tube and heat shield on my 520. The way I found the vent tube that was cut off and plugged was that when the gas tank got warm if you took off the cap it would be blown out of your hand. So besides the heat shield being gone the vent tube was all so missing.

that lets the gas return to the tank when you shut down and the tractor is warm from use the carb heats up and the fuel shutoff will not let gas return to the tank. the tank has a vent line not a vented cap

I agree that not all 2-cyl tractors had a non-vented cap.
But if your theory was true, fuel hot enough to expand because it could not return through the the automatic shutoff would flood out through the bowl vent holes in the intake end of the carburetor. I've seen lots of Deere's with auto shut offs with out the de-aeration chamber.
Our '51 G on gasoline with auto shutoff never flooded into the intake, but the gasoline in the tank would get hot enough that you could hear it rumbling in the tank after really hard work on a hot day. We solved that problem by adding a heat shield between the manifold and the bottom of the tank.
