CCA cultivator in wheat stubble

Anyone use a CCA style JD cultivator in wheat stubble? How did it work for breaking up the ground a bit and dealing with the stubble? Any pictures would be great too. I am wondering if I used one behind my 620 instead of plowing and disking each fall, that I could use a cultivator and disk instead. Be a bit faster and leave a bit more residue. Thanks

In my region "Montana" they were tried back in the 30s and
40s for summer fallow work. Didn't work that well. As one
oldtimer told me it was like pulling a hay rake. And keep in
mind this was back in the days when 20 bu per acre wheat
was a good crop. So there wasn't that much stubble. And
they don't go into hard ground or anything that resembles
hard ground. To get them to work most guys went over the
fallow ground with a disk first. The Graham Hoeme plow and
other "duckfoot" plows pretty much made the CCs obsolete. I
have an 8ft CC with lever lift that I am going to use behind my
GM for show and I also have a IH 14ft cultivator and a Case L
that came off the same farm.

The CCA works good with a rear hitch fabricated on and pulled ahead of a 16-8 grain drill.

They ain't weed tolerant at all...and hoping that big weeds will filter through the shanks is pure folly!...Yeh..works something like a hay-rake.

Hmmmm...well not what I was hoping to hear, but I am happy I did ask as I have no interested in trying it now. Thanks to you both!! Guess I will stick with the tried and true method.

I forgot to point it out in my first post but the CC series and
most cultivators are "secondary" tillage implements. They are
designed to till ground after something bigger and heavier has
already gone through. Like the other poster said they make a
nice tool for seed bed prep.

well, I guess I'm obsolete then. I still use one every summer, I summer fallow a field every year, to pick up stones, tile and level the land. plus to get read of trouble some weeds. My biggest problem is quack-grass. The CC-A works very well for this. I know, theirs round-up and also agent-orange. I was in Vietnam.
