John Deere 80 Diesel

Just wanted to post a couple of photos of the 80 I bought in July that had the cracked frame. Got it welded up a few weeks ago and that went well. Put about $1900 into it to get it done and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Got a lot of tips, hints and info off the forum from all the old posts and wanted to say thanks to everyone.

Thank you. I took some time off work to just concentrate on getting her back to life and glad I did. I think the only thing that doesn't work on it is the cigarette lighter and maybe that does-I just don't have one to test it with! Got both sets of hydraulics hooked up with fresh hoses and quick connectors and think I might get the disk hooked up to it and see how she does with a little bit of a load behind her. Just a super smooth tractor as best as I can tell. Never-ever did I think I'd find an 80. Had just about written that off my wish list.

Hi Lyndon,

Thanks. Yeah I was going to contact you here in a few weeks and let you know one way or the other on that "R" belly frame. I got that crack all V'd out, got about 2 passes in it and it cracked back out (still had some 7018 left in it from the last guy) so ground it out again and welded it up with Nickel-Cast rod. Took about 11 hrs start to finish as I left a propane burner on it after I got done so it would cool slowly. I think I've put about 4 miles on it since then turning and twisting it and it's looking fine. If it goes bad-I've still got your email.
