Tim, back in the late 80's we repowered a 4020 with a new 466D. We had equipped the tractor with a 10 blade plastic fan somewhere along the way... it was a combination of what fit, and what could move enough air to make it fit.

Anyway, the fan has started to disintegrate, and I know you have mentioned here you have used some aftermarket fan to fit and get a little increased airflow. Would you mind sharing what it was???

Thanks, john

I was told the M&W fan was actually the same design IH used on the 1206/56.Also there were combine fans that had more pitch and blades.Tim will know .I have an M&W fan and shroud that is much more aggressive than stock one .I quess I could compare it to a 1206 I have.

That is good to know. Thank you. The 466 is a tad bigger than the 404, so the fan also has to fit in there. I know Tim had posted some from CarQuest or somewhere that had worked for him... but I can't seem to locate that post.

Funny thing with fans and lots of blades. When I worked at the GM dealer a local race car guy would have us order NEW fans for him. These were the old style 4 bladed ones. Said they worked better for him than anything else he could find. Those flex fans from auto parts houses don't usually hold up very good and can fly apart.

Things are different with car engines, much more RPM's involved, the fan I use is a Auto Zone 221619 flex fan, the mounting holes need elongated a bit and the center hole pilots onto the combine water pump shaft that I have been using to keep it centered up, I chose this fan do give more needed radiator clearance, and you will need to use a 4430 alternator pulley and use the forward sheave, this keeps the nut buried away from the fan for more clearance there. other fans may work out as good, this is just what I came up with...I would like to find one similar that had mounting holes the correct pattern, as always if we keep searching and working with these things we all will get better at it..
