720 electric start

My neighbour just called. He is looking at - what appears to be - a 720 diesel electric start. He can't be sure if the decals are correct, and couldn't get at the serial number plate. Question- did 720s come from the factory with electric start? Could it have been converted later? Thanks for the help. Unc

Factory 24 volt electric start became available toward the end of the 1958 model year. The serial number will be above 7222600 if I recall correctly. Earlier tractors can certainly be converted, some done very nicely and others very obvious that they began life as a starting engine tractor. One of the harder details to get right on a conversion is the dash casting. There is no hole for the starting engine controls on the right side. That dash casting is unique to the factory built 720 diesel electric start tractors so a conversion is not so likely to have had that changed.

Only after a certain serial number like Paul says. It is in the parts book. IIRC there were only to be 2025 of them built in row crop form.

Does it have a small door on the right side of the hood with a small gas tank on it? Hard to imagine someone converting to electric start and hunting down a correct hood without that door.
