I have a JD 4840 split due to grinding when the PTO was on. The PTO shaft bearing in the clutch housing was all busted up and the PTO gear on the shaft and lower idler gear with the brake were ruined. This tractor is the early serial number and the tractor has been split before for a PTO shaft problem. It has the updated shaft they installed from a salvage yard Part#r72447, but it has the old style roller bearing installed in the clutch housing. If you install the updated shaft dont you have to put tapered bearings in the clutch housing and the rear bearing housing? I read somewhere if you install the taper bearing you have to bore the clutch housing so it will fit? TIA
