4430 metering pump type steering

I've ordered the parts to change this out to a hydraulic hose connection. I've read about catching pnt/min on return to determine if the problem may be in the brick. Any thoughts?

You might raise the hood and check that the big valve-spool inside the brick shuttles freely back and forth.

To change-out the fittings in the metering pump(or just the steering return oil fitting) will require rebuilding the metering pump. Not much in there but does require the special dowels to line the pieces back in place for assembly.

Yes...two tight fitting dowels to keep the pieces all lined-up. Parts must be clean and dry or the thin mylar 'gaskets'(shims) will be ruined.

I've used bolts with a layer of tape to keep a good fit for the dowels in the past...but the special dowels work best. I think the sell the dowels here??

Anyone know about these dowels and where I can find them? Getting in the short rows on these 2 4430's I hope! Thanks again!!!

You can do it with out the dowels,,get your thin gaskets in place and your gears lined up correctly with a couple 3/8" bolts, then as you start to tighten them down make sure your cogs are in line by turning the steer shaft a bit both ways, this will help every thing get right as you continue to tighten it, there should be a little but of drag when it's all right..mail me about it if you want..

Yes you can get it out with out pulling the dash, remove the steer wheel, lines and hinge bolts and it will drop out through the kick panel near the diff lock pedal..
