JD3020 electric issue

i am kinda stumped my 3020 gas stalled out one day just as someone had disconected the battery long story short i replaced the key switch two fuses and still it wouldnt stay running it would start then die out!! well i had to use the tractor as it is my sprayer tractor for sweetcorn by hot wireing the two plugs that connect to the key switch well that worked good for few sparyings then it developed a miss fireing problem changed every thing in the distributer cap wires points so anyone that can help please do thank you!!!

Hmmm...possibly a bad/wrong coil...points adjustment...bad wiring harness or connections....or possibly even a fuel issue like partly blocked fuel supply or crud in carb too.

Do a bit of trouble shooting.
Run it til lit starts giving you a problem. Then

#1 stop and check that you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap at the center wire of the cap and at All the plug wires.

#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas there. If it doesn't have a fuel pump make sure the flow will fill a pint jar in under 3 minutes. Do catch it to look for dirt etc. in the fuel.

Do those things in the order I say so as not to cause a fire hazard

Symptoms you describe are what happens when
resistor in 12 volt system burns out. Lot
of them were wired so when cranking resistor
was by-passed for hotter spark. If memory
serves early 3020 gas had resistor built
into switch. But a lot may have been
changed since 1965 and I would look for
separate resistor perched by coil or
elsewhere in circuit.
