Adding a key to a 530

I'd like some help. I want to add a key switch to a 530. I want the key and the existing ignition switch to have to be on to start and run the tractor. What is the best way to wire this.

One other option is to add a battery disconnect switch. This can be mounted in side the battery box. Are you trying to keep kids from starting, or thieves from stealing?

If installing a key switch it should be wired in black wire leading from starter solenoid to ammeter to ign/light switch

I added a big battery disconnect to different color tractor, and it stops battery drain, makes it safer from my boy's little friends.

I would put the key switch before the factory switch or replace the factory switch with the key switch. It would be a rotating key switch which was standard around the same time. If you don't get the switch before power to button switch it will still work. Personally I think I'd rather opt for a battery disconnect like mentioned. The 530 has those push pull connectors and might be a little hairy under the dash. Bad place for a loose connection. I would think they make a key controlled disconnect but I tell you if you're looking for security either is inadequate. With a motorcycle battery and alligator clips someone can steel most any of these old tractors....

Im sure there is a keyed switch out there that performs all of the four functions the factory lever switch does. You could use a three function switch and forget about the last function, the one that dims the headlights. It's beyond me why they wanted to dim lights that were already inadequate. Some googling might find you one.
