Well talked to one of the guys who talked to the machine shop. Said the block is good no crack and not warped. Going to have the cam bearings installed by them and then it should be on it way back. Going to drop off the head and crank tomorrow so they can be checked out. I was a bit worried about the block because I found 2 sleeves that had been silicone in so figured it was best to have the block checked out before sending in the crank and head.

I also got the clutch throw out bear shaft freed up. Now ht pedal will drop if you let go of it with out the springs in place. Before I started just to push it down was a chore and a half and that was with the clutch out and no spring hooked up

Well to me the crank looks good but I do not have mike's to check it but no place on it can I catch a finger nail. The head on the other hand does look a bit rough so I know it will need some TLC

IIRC those don't normally have replaceable valve guides either. The one I did I had to bore the guides and install bushings made for guides.

Ya I know some engines do not have guides but they still cane lap the valves and make sure all is good in that area and if it has seals install new seals

That's good to know but there is a thrush bearing or some such there isn't there??

The thrust washer is right behind the drive gear. You took the bolts out of it to get the cam out.

1020 diesel has no valve seals. Also grinding the valve-seats and/or refacing the valves and make it a poor starter in cold weather. Installed valve-head depth in the head is critical.
