Model B oil lines

I keep reading about broken steel oil lines.
When I took my B apart I had a broken line but it was because the piston rod bolt was hitting it.
My question is, are the steel line to rigid or brittle and brake?
Would copper line be better?

Steel lines are stronger than copper. Copper gets harder with age and might actually break sooner ?
Most generally when you see a broken line it also shows marks of where something was touching it. When putting one together I always try and double check for clearance around all the lines as you slowly turn the engine over by hand.
