john deere a hood removal

The fuel tank comes off with the hood so you have to unhook the fuel line at the sediment bowl.
You also need to unhook the shutter control rod at the shutter and at the control lever.

I am going to presume you have the "CLUTCH HEAD SOCKET" to get those pesky special bolts out! If not then I suggest getting a square head socket and grind it down to make something that works. ALso a 1/2 inch 6 point socket works best on the hex head bolts!

Pete in MD has it right. That's what makes it a lot of fun! Serviceability wasn't paramount in the day these old girls were made. Working alone, I use a little hoist above for the hood can get pretty heavy when the fuel tanks must come up with it.

Marv,
I've never heard of a clutch head Socket. There are clutch head screw drivers however, NAPA M-138 is
an example of one. A regular 6 or 12 point socket or a 1/2 inch combination wrench works fine for
removing/installing clutch head screws.

Yep!! These are a full set of clutch head sockets. Long and short reach - especially for those damn screws that they put in around the radiator screens!
