First for me anyway. This weekend I saw a 3010 D with a non rollomatic narrow front end. I have seen several 2010's equipped that way , actually more common according to an old JD dealer.

The non roll-a-matic is more of a regional thing. Some places did not order the roll-a-matic front ends. I have a JD 4020 right now without the roll-a-matic. The roll-a-matic option cost extra so many did not order it. I see it on gas models more than diesels. So I expect it was a cost savings thing.

I've always been a little surprised that other companies didn't pick up this concept since it seems like a real benefit. Maybe by the time the patents expired the popularity of narrow front ends had diminished to the point it wasn't worth it. It is interesting to read the history of the man who invented this design - Adolph Ronning was a real genious when it came to such things. Deere bought the design from him in the late 40's after IH turned down his offer.

Here, in earlier days..a Wide front was a handicap when cultivating taller corn..were not used much...

Everything was pretty much designed for the "Row-Crop" tractor design..those were the days when corn was planted in 42" row spacing..and WAY before
the common use of herbicides...

Guess we were "Organic Farmers" long before the term existed..!!

Maybe we were better off then...
