4020 Console 3 Point

Finished bushhogging yesterday. Everything worked fine. Unhooked the bushhog and pulled away. Went to back the tractor in and I saw the 3 point arms creep up. The control lever was in the down position, but 3 point arms were at the top. Turned the tractor off and the arms went down. I let the tractor cool for several hours and got back on it. With the control all the way forward I started the tractor and sure enough the 3 point arms started to creep up. The control seemed to work and when I pulled back on the lever, the arms raised faster, but even with the control all the way forward, the arms will not lower. I tried searching the forum for this, but seems like most people have the opposite problem of the arms not raising. Can anyone give some advise on what to look for?

On a side note, I just replaced the 1/2" pressure line coming from under the dash to just to the right of the hydraulic filler neck on the rockshaft cover prior to bushhogging because of a leak. Steering, brakes and 3 point all worked great after replacement. Currently there are no issues with steering and braking.. Just the 3 point issue.

It's possible a piece of debris is between rockshaft pressure valve & it's seat or valve clearance is too small. One can adjust valve clearance by removing plug on RH side of valve housing.

The replaced line went from the pressure control valve under the dash to the rockshaft cover by the hydraulic dipstick.. Not sure if this is of any importance, but I figured I'd mention it.. Thanks!

Screw(key 2) is the adjustment screw. Be sure large nut(key 15 or 24) is tight in housing

Move your draft sensing lever to a different position and see if it helps. You should get a
service manual and follow the adjustment steps for your 3 point hitch controls. There is a
plug on the back of the tractor you remove and make a internal adjustment. The adjustment
sequence should be done every time the load shaft and seals are changed and it is often
neglected.

Yes, it what Jim said, I have seen stuff get under the pressure valve cause this, you
will need to pull the back of the control valve to get to the valve, not a bad job

Thanks for everyones replies. I have a great start to troubleshooting. Being that this happened all of a sudden, it sounds more than likely a debris issue than an adjustment issue. I will check for debris in the rockshaft pressure valve and seat first. Just have to figure out where that is.. Ha! Anyone have a quick and easy guide to where components are?
