Late b questions

There has been a late B for sale down the road from me for a few years. I've had a hand full of two cylinders but have unfortunately sold them years ago. Well I went down the road to look at this one just for giggles, it's priced way to high for me but had to look anyways. It had a lot of different stuff compared to the late b I had. No roll o matic front end. Had shutters over the radiator. Had a mag instead of a distributer. Is all this normal for a late b? Also this tractor has about an inch long Crack in the frame towards the rear. Is that something huge to worry about or drill weld and grind smooth? Tires are dry rotted but hold air. It's not the straightest tractor I've ever seen but if it sits a few more years maybe my price range will be excepted. It does have an aftermarket 3pt on the back.

That one sounds "normal" to me ? crack and all. There were several front end styles available. Mags, dist. and shutters all get added and removed over the years by various owners.

May be FORTUNATE you sold yours years ago as the prices were ALOT better back then ! I still have mine and I think they are worth less and less each year.

Would I be right to think it's worth about 800 bucks? It is/was a good runner, guy was using it to brush hog but upgraded to a slightly newer Massey Ferguson.

I saw a good running late model B with good tires, straight and with a fair paint job go for $800 at auction this summer. New rears with tubes and mounting is going to cost you $800 to $1,000. So if you buy it for $800 and do that, you're going to have $1,600 to $1,800 invested, which is what I see a lot of them selling for with decent rubber.

unfortunately as time goes by the users of these tractors fade and consequently the interest. An older friend now gone and I noticed about 15 years ago that most interest had shifted away from the letter tractors to the later models and now the trend is shifted to the new generation. Give it thought the first new generation is 56 years old. Most inventions get dated in time and values can recede or possibly increase but I doubt that on tractors as parts supplies, new replacement cost have crushed the value, plus the big recession. I've noticed a lot of younger people may like an older tractor but as well like one they can use.

The frame is it pressed steel. If so is the crack around a frame bolt? Sounds like the frame bolt worked loose and crasked the frame. No problem just weld it up and grind it smooth. I would not pay very much for the tractor as you say the tires are not much count. As you know you can put too much money in a tractor and never get your money out. Your right hang on and the price might come down to the right price range. Oh I just traded a 3 hp Fairbanks Morse Z engine for a 1944 Slant Dash J.D. A. Tractor. Even up. After he said it would run. I had to replace oil seals in the Wico X mag, points and condenser, rebuilding the carb which was full of mud and broke the venture tube. Needs a rear pressed steel wheel and two rear tires. I am going in the hole with this tractor

Roll-a-matic was an option (most had it) depending on year, they came with both dist and mag. They all had shutters. No way I'd give $ 800 for it and that's probably why it's been sitting there so long. $ 500 max.

I'll see if I can grab the number. I wanna say about 2 years ago he put it out with a price in the low 2000s on it. I pulled out of my drive way slowly rolled by it thinking he's crazy. I forget if he's down to 15 or 1200 now. Anyways I think if he comes down to a grand that will be my time to go talk to him. If it runs good I think I'd go 800. I'll try and grab some photos. I sold one worth good rubber and real straight tin but smoked really bad for 800 about 4 years ago now. His would have to be a strong runner no smoke to get me for 800. I just miss having a 2cyl in the collection. I really want a d again, I had a straight solid running d I never should of sold too. I'll never afford another one until the kids are about 20 years older now.

I do not have any family sentiment in this particular tractor. I have a farmall h grandpa bought brand new, that's the million dollar farmall h in my values. I do have a picture of grandpa on a late jd b too but no particular way to find out for sure. As far as I know I could of already bought and sold that one. I can't find any records of it besides one black and white picture.
