Getting my JD 1951 A tractor for a parade in two weeks preparing/polishing/waxing when suddenly, unexpectly I saw a small hairline crack on top of the left side of the rockshaft housing. It's about 3 inches long and upon inspection it does not appear to be deep. I have no idea how this could have happened as the rockshaft/remote couplers are driven from the hydraulic pump when the PTO is engaged and running. I have not used either in 15 years plus. The tractor is always shedded and only used in parades. Now my next question: Is welding/brazing a reasonable repair option? Upon my findings I put a pipe wrench on the rockshaft moving the lever in forward/rearward postion and pulling the rockshaft down to the lower position. It couldn't be constant pressure on the raised position after all this time could it? I hate to think find a complete unit to replace it is the only solution. I will try to post pictures. Any assistance is always appreciated. I value your input.
