JD 1951 A rockshaft question-shocking finding

Getting my JD 1951 A tractor for a parade in two weeks preparing/polishing/waxing when suddenly, unexpectly I saw a small hairline crack on top of the left side of the rockshaft housing. It's about 3 inches long and upon inspection it does not appear to be deep. I have no idea how this could have happened as the rockshaft/remote couplers are driven from the hydraulic pump when the PTO is engaged and running. I have not used either in 15 years plus. The tractor is always shedded and only used in parades. Now my next question: Is welding/brazing a reasonable repair option? Upon my findings I put a pipe wrench on the rockshaft moving the lever in forward/rearward postion and pulling the rockshaft down to the lower position. It couldn't be constant pressure on the raised position after all this time could it? I hate to think find a complete unit to replace it is the only solution. I will try to post pictures. Any assistance is always appreciated. I value your input.

Even though you will probably never use it seems to be bothering you. I'd replace the unit....if you weld you'll always know its been welded or other than that I'd put some paint in the crack and not loose any sleep...its a 65 year old tractor and probably if you look close enough there may be other cracks....good luck

Could it be that it's been there for a while and you just noticed it? If it's where I think it is it will not leak and will be OK if you're not using the lift arms. It would probably be easy to find a salvage housing if you "need" to fix it. I've come across thing I never noticed many times.
