JD 467 Round Baler

Hi Everyone, Well I came across a 467 Baler at a farm auction and I bought it. I knew the farmer who had it he bought it new and always kept it in a shed. He just put new chains on it last fall, it shows on the monitor that he baled just over 6400 bales. The belts look good they still have the three diamonds on them, bearings and sprockets all seem good, it has twine and net wrap and they both seem to work as they should and it has the mega wide pickup and the extra big tires. I gave 8000 for it so I think I got it worth the money, I hope so because I've already sold my 435. Does anyone know of anything I need to watch for on maintaining or baling with this particular baler. Thanks

Have an eye for the compression springs for the bale chamber and the kicker springs.
Take the main slip clutch apart and inspect it. If you have any doubts about the condition of the plate and disks put a new set in. When they start to slip enough to burn its too late. This way you will know what you have.Have a look at the belt lacings and put all new pins in. Once they get too worn they can be real buggers to get out.Of course once the pin breaks you can end up with only part of the lacing holding the belt together.
Mount a fire extinqusher on it.
Sounds like you got a great deal on one of the best balers Deere built.

$8000 for a 467 that's only baled 6400 bales is a bargain where I live. I've seen same model baler with a lot higher bale count bring $11,500-$15,000. 467 is the best rd baler I've owned and I'm on my 2nd one. I have a combined 52,000+ bales on my 467's. If you liked your 435 I think you'll LUV your 467. I know of nothing special to look for except smoke or flames but that can be stated about any rd baler. Keep the chains lubricated and BALE HAY!.

On subject of slip clutch I disagree as I've adjusted my balers slip clutch by removing washers as outlined in my operators manual on page 65-31 after it got hot enough to cause smoke and slip clutch holds. I also terminated the baler operator.

IMHO JD has problems with their springs becoming to brittle.

Thanks guys for the reply's, yeah I ran a lot of bales through my 435 but it had the old style monitor and the twine and wrap was hydraulic driven. I wasn't for sure about the electric actuators. The 467 springs look brand new just to look at them, one of them has a barcode sticker on it, it may of been replaced I don't know. The belt lacings look good. You can tell the baler has been maintained but the old boy who owned it is not around anymore to ask him what all he did to it he died this spring. The only reason I know about the chains is I helped him replace them last fall. His grandkids came in out of state and sold everything the other day. As far as the slip clutch goes I never thought about checking it, I never did on the 435 and never had any trouble with it. I'm going to bale a few bales in a few days so I guess I see how it does.
Thanks again for the replies and if you all think of anything else let me know I'd appreciate it.

Slip clutch on 435 & 467 are similar to a man & a woman! One came from Mars & the other one came from Venus!!!!!
They are totally different & adjust differently.

I didn't like the electric operated operated twine/net actuators when I bought my 1st baler(466) with these features. BUT I'VE GROWN TO LUV THEM.

Hi all, I finally got around to putting up some more hay last week and Jim your right I love that baler. I had to get out of the tractor a few times when I was first setting it up to check bale density and stuff like that but after I checked that everything was set like I liked it I was able to bale over 200 bales without a bit of trouble. I didn't have one plug or nothing. It was a lot faster than my old 435, the 435 didn't have net wrap, mega wide pickup or a bale pusher and them things makes a world of difference on how much hay you can put out. That baletrak monitor is way better than the old monitor too you can adjust everything from the cab and that's nice for an old man like me I don't get around like I used to. I also see what your talking about on that pto slip clutch, it looks like the one on my discbine it don't have all the springs on it like the old 435.
Anyways I just wanted you all to know how it turned out. Thanks again
