Denso starter on a 4230

I have a 1967 John Deere 4020 with a denso starter on it. And it works great. I have a 4230 I am going to replace it's starter because it failed. And I am going to install a denso on it. Why does the 4020 have a relay on the denso starter on it? Do I need to install a relay on the denso I will install on my 4230? And I if need a relay is there a wiring diagram I can find to install it? My 4020 has paint on relay and starter so I can't tell how its set up.

If it will clear the intake manifold, this is the starter to use. Something that cross references to this JD part number. RE528619. May as well add a $15 front pump destroker when it's in the shop.

(quoted from post at 07:05:50 09/06/16) Early 4020s had circuit breakers mounted on the starter- are you sure that isn't what you are seeing???

If 4020 has a Nippodenso starter I'll bet it's been changed over to 12 volt system

I think intake manifold won't be an issue on the 4230 that Tony730 is desiring to install a Denso starter on. Below are the Denso starters JD recommended for a 4230

TX JIM was right about your 4230 already
having a starter relay on the firewall.
Console 4020s had starter relays on the
firewall right above the starter whether
they had Delco or Nippo starters.
