4010 oil pressure

Bought this old 4010 yesterday. Runs perfectly. No oil burn
and no smoke. Problem is that after it warms up, oil pressure
drops. When cold it idles about 25 and goes up only to about
35 at fast idle. When warm, it falls to about 5 and the warning
light comes on at idle until you rev it. I adjusted the oil
pressure regulator but screwing it all the way in or out made
no change whatsoever. Guess I'll look at the oring in the pan.
Hopefully that's it. I can't understand why the regulator made
no difference though.

I'll take a stab at this...

I'm suspecting worn bearings. Years ago we had a dump truck that would have great oil pressure when cold but once at operating temp, the oil pressure would plummet. Like your 4010 tractor, it didn't burn oil and seemed to run fine except for the oil pressure. We sent the crank off for machining and when returned, replaced the main and crank bearings with new over sized bearings. Oil pressure was fine after that. Conclusion was the bearings were worn enough to cause oil pressure to drop (since the tolerances were out).

Just my 1/2 cents from prior experience.

The first thing i would do is pull the filter can and check the o"ring all so check the can to make sure it is not out of round if they are good drop the pan and check the brgs. by the way the correct term
for brgs the are used with a reground crankshaft is under size not over size
