I am wondering if anyone can give me a opinion on this. I bought a JD 8450 articulating tractor with just under 7000 hrs. It is clean and straight. I bought it as a mechanics special because the engine would turn over real easy, it would not start and the dampener pulley in front wasn?t turning. We assumed it had a broken crankshaft. We pulled the motor and found the bolts broken off of the flywheel. It does have a burnt piston but the crankshaft is good. As it turns out the clutch, drive shaft and two speed are bad. We do not know if there are any other problems in the rear end. We are able to do all the work ourselves but it will be quite parts and labor intensive. We have parted out tractors before and we are wondering if anyone has a opinion on what kind of demand there is for these used parts if we part it out rather than fix it. We have a very good set of 20.8x38 10 ply Firestone drive tires and duals, wheel castings, dual hubs, 466 block, crank, head, cam, injection pump, hood, sheet metal, cab, pto, 3pt, four scv?s as well as the other hyd components, the front and rear axles and whatever else is good in the engine and transmission. Many of the parts will interchange with other large frame row crop and articulate models. Any input would be helpful.
