4430 hyd oil temp

All,

I checked some temps on SCV's today and had 220 degrees. This seems hot from what I've read. I've checked test ports on this tractor and things seem to be in range. I have a leak in the front pump and have recently replaced the stroke control valve because I lost lift and scv control. Can't seem to stop a leak on clamp on steering return line and wondering if I may have a pressure leak here? I have had steering issues in the past, but somehow managed to clear it by cleaning filter in the brick. any thoughts/

With the tractor cooled to ambient temp start it up and (safely) feel all the hydraulic valves and components (better yet, use an infra-red thermometer) and note which component(s) begin to heat up first, which indicates a high pressure leak in that area.

A properly functioning closed-center system doesn't flow any oil unless a function is being used or there's a defective component/internal leak which causes oil heating.

I might add that a rule of thumb on hyd. oil temp is 100 degrees above outside temp. Check oil cooler for air flow .

I tried checking some temps with infrared thermo today. Looks like my pressure control valve and steering valve are heating up the quickest. I checked yesterday after baling about 40 bales and was running about 215 degrees all over. I guess that why we need to check after startup. Once it heats up its going to be that temp throughout. PCV and steering were about 20 to 30 degrees above everywhere else I checked after 20 minutes from startup. Thoughts?

Mine is above. I stopped and talked to another mechanic yesterday. he was questioning my scv's. I told him my valve on bottom of steering column and pressure control valve seem to heat up the quickest. I did tell him when I check scv with gauge, my pressure goes to around 2100# and then falls to nothing when I return lever to neutral. He said it should not do this and this could be my problem???

Ditto on scv should hold pressure when control handle returned to neutral.

Your tractor has metering pump steering. Check temp of hyd valve that resembles a brick that's in frt of firewall under the hood.

So I checked brick today when I got in. Did seem to be heating up faster than other areas. Checked scv's again and both sides were dropping pressure when returned to neutral. One side seemed to heat up faster than the other. Just paid $700 to have one side valves put in but not new barrels. I know they were not adjusted. Do I start with the brick? Thanks for your time!

Installing new poppet valves in scv without adjusting valve clearance is a waste of time & $$$$$. After scv's are correctly repaired if tractor still had hyd oil heating problem I would disassemble hyd valve and check balls/seats.
