Fuel injection pump

I am needing to remove a fuel pump off of a 4020. It was a gas that we repowered and has what I call the throw away pump on it. So my question is where is the timing window at on this pump or how do I retime it?

If I recall on the model C pump there's a plug with a tapered end that is removed from the lower pump base next to the engine mounting, unscrew the plug and after the fuel stops flowing the tapered end will locate into a drilled spot inside the pump. What I do is set the engine to TDC first, then look for the drilled spot. If you don't see it the engine needs turned one revolution as the pump turns cam speed. There are few parts for that pump, but seal kits are still available. I usually reseal three or four a year, still some out that have not died yet..

That's what I was thinking but been along time since I messed with one. I have fuel getting into oil so I was going to put a seal in it. It just has the one lip seal in bottom correct?

Did you do anything with the little fuel pump? Usually that is the cause of fuel in the oil on a 3020-4020.On the Dubuque engines it is often the seals on the pump shaft.I just had one of the injection pumps like yours resealed. It cost me $670 to do that and six new injecters. Tom

I don't know if you have a CDC or a CBC pump. I'm not even sure if both were used on that engine, but Deere certainly had them. One has double seals back to back and the other has just one single seal. Checking timing advance is done with a small round plastic timing window with circular degree marks. Removal differs too depending on which pump. Early pumps had three hollow shear bolts on the drive-shaft attaching face, while later ones had a shear-shaft like a DB pump. Either way, you have to take the trap door off the front engine timing cover and take out some hardware.

Are you able to find a new seal? Kind of a scarce item.
