1520 crank question

I am ready to begin assembly of my 1520 diesel that had a broken crank. When we pulled the engine out there was no pilot bearing/bushing in it. When looking at my I and T manual and the computer it showed a plug that goes into the end of the crank. The book says press the plug in until it bottoms out. I can find no reference to a pilot bearing. I am also concerned that the plug might cause problems when I try to install the engine. Rrlund told me his 1020 used a pilot bearing when he replaced the clutch. Can anyone enlighten me on this? this is a little different from what I have encountered before. Thanks for any help,Lee

1520 parts shows a pilot bearing AL28037.

Looks like there's a whole lot of different ways that area can be set up, depending upon type of PTO and with/without reverser.

Your post leaves out ALL that essential info.

You can locate pilot brg info under "power train" section the go down to "clutch shafts & pilots" as shown in photo below.

JD10107 is for tractors with continuous(dual stage clutch) or hyd ind pto.

AL28037 is for tractor with hyd reverser.

Its just standard. Live pto with no reverser. Would it use both the plug and pilot bearing?

IIRC plug fits in crankshaft & pilot brg(JD10107) fits in flywheel.

First thing is if you can afford to overhaul and fix this tractor you can also afford a better book than an I&T. Go to ebay and get a Deere Tech book for your tractor,it is the best investment you can make when doing your own repairs.The Deere book would have answered all your questions and tells you enough more to make your job better and easier. That statement could be stated for anyone that asks a question on these forums including long time members to new members.

Uses both plug and pilot. Plug is for input shaft
to thrust against.
