301A hood update

Several weeks ago I posted a question regarding how the hood on a 301A tractor was supposed to be attached and how the hood could be removed. The previous owner had cobbled on a cab at one time and had obviously mangled some things.

I had a chance to work on the tractor last week and managed to remove the hood. The parts catalog diagrams showed where the hood should have been attached, but didn't show a picture of the bottom side of the hood. The sheet metal of the hood had a "lip" formed on the bottom side on both sides. The actual attachment points for the hood were steel "brackets" that I assume were spot welded to the lip of the sheet metal hood.

I found that both of the rear brackets were still bolted to the cowl/battery box. but were not attached to hood itself. I'm guessing that these brackets broke off the lip on the hood when the previous owner cobbled on a cab. It appears that an attempt was made to weld the brackets back onto the lip, but the repair failed.

On of the front attachment points were also steel brackets that appear to have been spot welded to the lip on the hood. On one side, the bracket was no longer attached to the hood since the portion of the lip to which it was attached broke off---I'm assuming from metal fatigue. On the other side, the bracket was still attached to the hood, but badly bent.

I was able to straighten the bent front bracket on one side. It looks like I should be able to attached the other front bracket to the lower side if the hood (rather than to the lip) with a few small screws, bolts, or rivets. I should be able to repair the rear attachment points by attaching the steel brackets to a new piece of sheet metal with screws, bolts, or rivets----then attaching the new piece of sheet metal to the back side of the fender with a few bolts, screws, or rivets.
