hydraulic pump 4010

The tractor is now at the local dealership to remove the pump and see what's wrong with it. It pumps fine but is leaking around the rear seal.

They are telling me a new pump is $2500 to $3000 but I can buy a rebuilt pump for $500 to $1000. They insist rebuilt pumps are unreliable and they have seen some last only a few hours.

This tractor is owned by our local road association and only runs about 30 hours a year.

I question their assertion regarding rebuilt pumps as I have used a number of rebuilt items with good results.

So I would appreciate any input on the question and also suggestions for reliable sources of rebuilt pumps.

I will be away from the computer until this week end so may not respond to any posts.

Thanks.

We haven't gotten to that point yet. They were just telling me that if the pump was absolutely no good what a new one would cost.

Where can you buy a new pump for $1000. They quoted me $2500 to $3000.

There are a few after market "new" pumps out there for around $900, they may or will need a seal drain line added to it but that is easy enough,,your dealer will not look for these pumps because of their "Charge as much as they can" policy...

I think Worthington parts has them,, I bought one last year and don't remember where it came from..I do know that most pumps that age should be tossed in the junk barrel...the shaft gets worn along with the pistons and seats,, it's is kind of a waste of time and money to re-seal them...I have been thinking about keeping a couple on hand here...

Here's the brand new pump I was thinking about.

I rebuild all the pumps like Tx Jim and Tim S do but won't touch a 10 series, because of the leak line like others have said. Because of the age of the pump and the piston bores being worn, you will never keep the front seal from leaking without the bleed line. I did install one like pictured on a 4010 a few years ago but it doesn't get used much to see if it will last or not.

A couple of years ago I researched this and the after market pumps from Worthington were made in Turkey. They assured me that they were made to the same exact dimensions as the original pumps and that you can buy replacement components from Deere to rebuild the after market pumps.

(quoted from post at 23:21:03 08/17/16) I rebuild all the pumps like Tx Jim and Tim S.

Sorry but I don't perform any mechanical duties. I've had permanent nerve damage for over 20 yrs that combined with advancing age limits what I can do.

A customer got a re-man Rexroth pump for a 6420 from DEERE a few months ago and it was re-manned in Turkey.

So even when you pay the DEERE price for that you get a product of Turkey!

As long as the piston bores are good that pump can be rebuilt , new shaft bearings, "PRELOAD" the shaft and the front seal will hold . All that plastic line does is cover up a leak that's going to get worse .There should be only a few drops come out not a flow .

It's a normal routine for Deere,, they will run down other rebuild services preaching that they are inferior,,and then turn around and sell you the "Same" thing at twice the price,,same goes with repairs, they run the little shops like mine down, when their own shop can't hold a candle to what we have learned and do...

That is true Don, but a lot of the pumps that I open up here have the lobe of the shaft worn badly, along with the needle bearings and cam race, flecks of material feeds into the tapered bearings damaging them some, along with a nasty groove in the seal area of the shaft,,so if you replace all of those worn items you are very near the $500/$600 area with a little labor in that price,,it makes a new pump at $900 actually a better deal,,and go back together with all these worn parts it won't leak for a year or so but it will sooner than anyone wants. I have re-sealed a few pumps here for some in my area knowing and sharing that with them the fact that it will only be a temporary fix to get them by for then..

Sorry I left out the comma between shaft and new bearings . I am saying if the housings are good then I would rebuild it . Would still be better than TURKEY or CHINA
