Starter

Im having problems with the starter on my 401D. You have to engage the starter(with the key) multiple times before it will start. When you turn the key it just clicks. I used to only have to do it a few times but it is getting worse. Is this the solenoid and if so, can I just replace that part of it? The solenoid is attached to the starter. I just replace the solenoid on my 1947 Massey but it was a remote solenoid.

Probably is the solenoid.

Before you go to far, make sure your battery and battery connections are good.
A friend had a similar problem (not a JD) and was sure it was selenoid but took the time to put on new battery cable ends and the problem went away.
