4020 Oil Leak

This is a picture under the brake pedals on our 4020. I have a hydraulic oil leak, and it looks like it is coming out of this plastic line - or maybe the connection. Is this a return line to the pump? It must be low pressure. Is the plastic original? Thanks

Yes it is low pressure line. Actually not return to pump but designed mainly to return any leak by from pump seal to case.

For some reasons when guys split tractors, they cut the line and splice it back instead of just taking it loose at the brake valve. I have had many tractors with splices in that area and at least half of them leak. You should be able to re-do the fitting to make it stop leaking or else replace the tubing so it's all one piece. Some models you can replace the tubing easily, but others you have to remove the pump or front end or sometimes the radiator to access it. 4520/4620 has got to be the worst to access under the pump. Those splices really bother me for some reason.

And there should be very little oil flow there,, if there is a lot the front seal in the pump is wearing out...

go get air line splicers for big trucks.they have a braas sleeve that slides inside the tubeing where the ferruls go.you can tighten up better and less chance of an oil leak
