JD D front axle

I have a styled D that has a front axle that appears to have 2 center pivot pin holes. One is offset from the center one a few inches. Can you use either one and what is
the reason for that? Thanks!

Someone can probably explain this better than I. If you are going to do belt work you have to set the axle so the tire will clear the belt. The other setting is for plowing so the front tire will follow correctly in the furrow.

Only thing I would add is for belt work you need to dig a hole so tire goes down in it . Belts can flop and cut the tire .
