50 flywheel ring gear change

I need to replace the ring gear and was wondering if the edge of the flywheel is machined where the ring
gear sits. I take it I need to remove the flywheel to do this. The shop manual does not give any info nor
give a torque value for the flywheel bolts. It does show how to set the crankshaft end play. TIA.

The torque value for flywheel bolts on the model 50 is 150 ft lbs according to "Mr Thinker's Almanac" third edition.

Yea, there is a ledge that the ring gear should be against..

Yes, it is wise to remove the flywheel to change the ring gear..

2 hand-held Propane torches will heat it up enough (Need 400 degrees)..ring gear will fall off with only very little help.

New one will drop in place if heated to same temp..DO tap in place with a brass hammer to be sure it is set against the Ledge around the flywheel..

Channel-Lock pliers were very handy for handling the hot ring gear..

that long wrench supplied with all 2 cylinder waterloo built tractors is made to get the flywheel tight

Torquing via by guess and by golly on used bolts is why there are loose flywheels and ruined cranks.
Use new boots and a torque wrench.
