4430 leaking under the transmission

Friend has a 4430 that is leaking hydraulic oil under the transmission housing where a series of pins stick out into the cradle that holds the draw bar. I believe these are called draft seals? What is involved to fix this? Does the transmission need to be drained first?

Yes the transmission will need drained first,, and it will still slobber on you while you work on it..I get the complete bushing with seals from Deere,, I don't have the part number handy right now,, after draining, remove the 3pt lower arms, pull the draw bar "Almost" out, I leave it in far enough to catch the A-frame then pull it out a little farther to let the A-frame on down, a floor jack should be used here if you have one, the frame is a bit heavy,the cals need to come out and the shaft driven out to let the frame down, a pint of oil will go down your arm at this point,,then using a 1 inch shaft of some kind for a driver (squared off good on the end) drive the bushings out and the new ones in,,when you put the shaft in be very careful as you line it back in through the load sensing arm, there is a tab on the arm that can be knocked off and to repair that mistake the final drives and differential needs to be removed,,"Don't let that happen"....There will be other hints on here to help you further...

Yes trans needs to be drained or hose of operating shop vacuum installed in hyd filler hole to create a vacuum. Be sure to put L/D control knob by right calf when sitting in seat in the "minimum" position. Support drawbar support with a jack or come-along when removing L/D control shaft. Check shaft for wear. When returning drawbar support to original area shim out any side to side motion with special shims shown below.
