JD 4230 PTO

Ive got a 4230, and the PTO is continually turning. I checked pressures at the brake and it was in spec. The oil has a burnt smell to it. Is it possible the PTO clutch separator plate is warped? Any other things i could check? Thank you. This has a syncro range trans.

My guess is facing is worn off pto brake piston(parts key 4)

The PTO retaining ring has 'probably' worn through, this would cause a problem like your's has,, a split is needed to prove this,, and that is your next step, the Operating housing should be re-sealed while you have it apart along with a clutch replacement,,and the PTO brake will hold with no lining most of the time..# 7 in the pic
