JD A running rough

I just bought this 1948 A, was running rough when I got it ,but the price was good.
I tried adjusting the load and idle needle but nothing happens.Had the carb cleaned real good
but it still does the same thing.Do the idle and load needle go bad ,should I get new ones?

It's not a matter if they run rough but rather how rough they run.

needles don't go bad. Just do a simple test. Open both needles 2 turns. Slowly close choke slightly to see if it evens out. If it does, have carb rebuilt. Open both needles 2 turns. Open wide open (fast idle) and close load needle. If it stops then have carb rebuilt. This does NOT mean "put a kit in it". There are other things that make them run rough but this is a good start. Check the normal things first...fresh fuel , good fuel flow out bottom of carb, new plugs , good solid core wires and mag up to snuff. If it starts easy then probably not electrical problem.

Did you pull the main nozzle out and clean it? And have the points and condenser and plugs been changed?

Did you remove ALL the brass plugs and clean ALL the small passages with the correct size drill bits available from Roberts Carb?
