4430 gauge cluster

The gauges on my late 4 post 4430 seem to have a grounding issue or some type of electrical issue, not exactly sure. Fuel reads in a different spot each time its started, oil pressure is usually showing in the red but some times goes way high, volt meter shows the needle dead all the way to the left always, and the water temp always shows very cold.

I'm wondering if this is a ground issue or what else it could possibly be. A bad ground seems like its going to be a bear to find so any tips or tricks will be appreciated!

These things are a pain in the butt to diagnose and expensive to fix.
I've been telling Mr. Evergreen Restoration for a couple of years now that he needs to develop a set of look alike mechanical gauges that fit in the same bezels so that you can bypass all the electrical insanity on these old tractors.

JD 4430 gauges & dash cluster are a far cry from the insanity of later model JD tractors. Even the mini computer in my 4255 can be removed and engine & even trans will operate just fine

That's more than likely a bad connection than a ground. There isn't much to the electrical there. Start at the gauges. Test for voltage. Use a meter. Test lights are for turn signals. If you don't have voltage start working your way back up the harness. If you do check for ground. If you have both you could though unlikely have all bad gauges

i worked on a 4240 with those symptoms. On that one there was a big connector from the tractor to the dash harness. There were bad connections in there.
